My 1969 88" Series 2a Land Rover is currently going through a complete re-build.

The braking system was the single circuit type and had seen better days.

I have taken the opportunity to upgrade the brakes to a dual circuit system.

My approach was to modify the pedal box to accept twin 5/8" 'Girling' type master cylinders acting on an adjustable balance bar assembly fitted to the pedal.

This enables me to set the front/rear bias on the brakes and an added benefit should be to minimise effect of the tendency of the brake shoe pull-off springs of retracting the shoes too far and causing a long pedal.

The original single master cylinder was 3/4" bore and the new system has two 5/8" bore cylinders which should give about 38% more swept volume and give a shorter pedal.

Hopefully the pedal force required will still be acceptable, I don't really want to have to go to boosted brakes.

I have put together a short video of the conversion of the pedal box to take the twin master cylinders.
